New Doctors Coming To CK

Four new doctors are joining the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

And one of them already has a close connection to the area.

Dr. Thomas Burgess, who has worked with the team at the Chatham-Kent Hospice in the past, is joining the health alliance as a palliative care specialist.

He has also worked as part of the physician group at The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

"I'm very excited to have the opportunity to provide physician support to the excellent Palliative and Supportive Care team at CKHA," says Dr. Burgess in a news release. "Effective symptom management, goals of care discussions, and development of care plans will all work to improve the quality of life for those patients with incurable, progressive illnesses."

In addition to Dr. Burgess, the CKHA is also adding two anaesthetists, Dr. Chameli Deb and Dr. Yung Lee, and a paediatrician, Dr. Abu Ismail.

Dr. Deb recently completed a fellowship in paediatric anasthesia at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, a fellowship in Ambulatory Anaesthesia at Toronto Western Hospital, and an Advanced Clinical Fellowship with Obstetric Coverage at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

Dr. Lee is moving from from Bathurst, New Brunswick where he held the role of Staff Anaesthesiologist at Chaleur Regional Hospital since 2009.

And Dr. Abu Ismail is coming to Chatham after completing three years of neonatal fellowship at the University of Toronto (Sick Kids Hospital).

"I was overwhelmed by the hospitality and the professionalism [in Chatham]," says Dr. Ismail. "Now I feel blessed to be part of the amazing paediatric group in Chatham-Kent. I want to serve the children in the community to the best of my abilities."
