Fraud At Campers Cove

Chatham-Kent police have arrested an alleged fraudster who is accused of targeting residents at Campers Cove Campground in Wheatley.

Police say during the 2016 camping season, a man approached three women who all had their own trailers parked within the campground, and asked them if they would like to purchase hardtop awnings.

Officers say the man reportedly collected money from the women and told them the work would be complete before the 2017 camping season started.

The awnings that were promised were not installed on time, so police were called in to investigate.

As a result of their investigation, officers have charged a 59-year-old man from Comber with three counts of fraud under $5,000. He has been released with conditions and a future court date.
