Protesters will be the only ones stopping construction at wind turbine projects north of Chatham -- at least for now.
Chatham-Kent council is still waiting to hear from Premier Kathleen Wynne regarding a request for the province to put a halt to wind turbine construction in the area.
That request is now reportedly before the premier's office.
Municipal officials met with representatives from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) on Thursday to present it and to discuss their concerns.
While council is waiting to hear back from the premier, MOECC staff are expected to connect with owners of wells that have experienced concerns about their water quality in the area surrounding the wind turbine construction. Provincial officials are also expected to further review those concerns with the companies overseeing the wind turbine projects, Samsung Renewable Energy and Pattern Energy.
Councillor Jeff Wesley, who brought the halt-work motion before council Monday night, says ministry officials took CK council's concerns "very seriously" adding that they are "committed to working to deal with the issues."
