A massive pile up on Hwy. 401 near Chatham on Sunday has killed two people from Amherstburg.

The OPP says a 42-year-old woman and a 14-year-old male, both passengers in a pick-up, were pronounced dead at the scene near Dillon Rd., after a westbound tractor trailer collided with six vehicles that were stopped due to a separate crash around 4:30pm.

The 39-year-old male driver of the pick-up was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries and a 12-year-old male passenger was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hwy. 401 between Bloomfield Rd. and Queens Line was closed for 11 hours.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
