The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) is bringing in some new equipment to improve patient care.
Lori Marshall, president and CEO of the CKHA, says the equipment had been chosen based on what was needed in the different departments of each hospital.
"We've already started purchasing the equipment," she says. "The list has gone out to the areas in terms of what's been approved; and all of the managers are working with our procurement group in order to start bringing the equipment in."
Marshall says their 2017/2018 Recovery Plan has given them the funds necessary for these capital equipment investments.
"This million dollars is from our overall budget and it's made possible -- I would say in this particular fiscal year because of the recovery plan that we've recently introduced," she says. "It allows us to put dollars towards funding new and expanded programs in the organization, some capital equipment, and then also towards out facility's infrastructure."
A list of the equipment the organization has chosen was identified in a media release as follows:
- New laryngoscope in ER
- Point of Care Ultrasound and resources to support advanced training for ER Physicians at both campuses
- Transport Neonatal/Infant Isolette
- Vital signs monitors
- Three trauma stretchers
- Three transvenous pacemakers
- Surgical table
- Microscope
- Patient showers and bathroom repair
Marshall stresses the importance of having a capital budget as well as donations.
"The hospital definitely needs a capital equipment budget which is what this is coming from, and in addition to that we continue to work very closely with our partners at the foundation who also raise money in the community."
As stated in a media release, the CKHA will start working on a five-year capital planning process in the fall to make plans towards revitalizing the Chatham and Sydenham campuses.
