A Windsor couple was taken into custody following an incident on Hwy 401 in Lakeshore.
Ontario Provincial Police say were called to the shoulder of the highway east of Manning Rd on Thursday afternoon. A passerby had noticed a vehicle in the ditch and a female fleeing the scene on foot into a field.
The vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen. A canine track was conducted, eventually leading to a business on Concession Rd 8 in Lakeshore. Employees there told police the couple had been there and were looking for a ride.
A description of that vehicle was obtained and it was spotted by officers, who conducted a traffic stop on the eastbound 401 near Belle River Rd.
A 37-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant, while a 34-year-0ld female was briefly detained and released from the scene.
Officers from the OPP detachments in Tecumseh and Lakeshore assisted with the investigation, along with the canine unit and the traffic management unit.
The investigation is ongoing.
