The local chapter of Habitat for Humanity has found a new artistic way to bring the Chatham-Kent community together.
The non-profit organization unveiled colourful mural on Friday, which showcases images that represent Chatham-Kent. The public was invited to an event to see the mural in its entirety for the first time at the Blenheim Splash Pad.
Nancy McDowell, the executive director for Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent, says the mural was designed by an artist as part of the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary. The mural was divided into 13 sections to be distributed throughout CK and coloured by local resident over the course of the last month.
"It represents the whole community. This [mural] went out to all different areas of the community and it was completed by the community. And that's exactly how a Habitat build happens -- it takes a community coming together," says McDowell."Everybody coming together made it happen."
She says the mural, which is 3 ft tall and 16 ft wide, will be displayed at the ReStore in Chatham on Riverview Dr.
