A local Christian organization is receiving backlash over displaying sheep in their float at Windsor's Canada Day parade.
The sheep-filled float was organized by Shepherd's Guide, which is a Christian phone directory business in the Windsor region.
The business has received multiple calls and emails since the parade, complaining about how the sheep were being held on the float -- many people took issue with how hot it was outside, the sheeps' cramped confines and the loud music that was playing during the parade.
Publisher Dave Szusz says the conditions of the sheep were fine.
"I was very careful in building a float that had a cover over the top of it. They were not in a cage as [people] tried to say," defends Szusz.
Szusz says the sheep were meant to be a religious symbol.
"Because of it being the Shepherd's Guide, the shepherds of course look over their sheep and so on. We just used that as display and of course kids love it," says Szusz. "As the bible says, we are the sheep of Jesus, he is our shepherd. [This] is just another way of displaying our beliefs."
Szusz says he thinks the backlash is mainly over the religious display of the float, rather than the sheep themselves.
