Chatham Hockey Star One Step Closer To NHL

Chatham hockey star Joseph Raaymakers' future is looking bright after attending Tampa Bay Lightning’s training camp.

The 19-year-old was the youngest of four goalies to attend the camp that wrapped up on Saturday.

Raaymakers says he's grateful to have opportunities like these to advance his hockey skills.

"You just try to soak up everything you can. All the staff there are really good. They have all the resources you need to succeed. If you have any questions, they're always willing to help," explains Raaymakers.

Last season, Raaymakers played for the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, reaching a .889 save percentage in 41 games. Raaymakers is looking forward to potentially playing in the NHL.

"Ever since I was a little kid I always wanted to make the NHL so that's still my dream. It kinda seems like we're getting closer and closer, but I still have a lot of work to do. Just looking for an opportunity to sign with a team," says Raaymakers.

This past April, Raaymakers was named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week during the playoffs.
