Police Search For Suspects With Possible Firearm

Police are investigating after someone fired a gun into the air on Walpole Island over the weekend.

Lambton County OPP say Walpole Island police were first called about a suspicious person near Austin Rd. on the First Nation reserve, early Sunday morning around 4:30am.

When police arrived, two people were seen leaving the area on an ATV.

Police say shortly after, one person was seen taking out what looked like a long range gun, at which time a single round was fired into the air.

The officers stopped to call for backup from local OPP in Lambton County, Chatham-Kent, and the West-Region area.

The area was searched by police and the canine unit, however, the suspects were not found.

The Walpole Island Police Service along with OPP are continuing the investigation.

Police say there is no immediate threat to the public.
