A fire at a business near Rodney sent dark clouds of smoke into the sky, forcing police to evacuate some homes in the area.
Elgin OPP and the West Elgin Fire Department were called to Classic Carts at 12678 Furnival Rd. just north of Rodney around 9:45am Tuesday. Fire had broken out in the shop, and concerns about possible toxicity of the smoke led to the evacuation of ten to 15 homes along Furnival Rd. between Downie Line and Centre St., according to Elgin OPP.
Residents of those homes were allowed to return at around 2pm.
The fire is not considered suspicious in nature.
