Retired OPP Officer Inducted Into CPA Hall Of Honour

A retired Chatham-Kent OPP officer has been inducted into the Canadian Police Association Hall of Honour.

Before retiring four years ago, Ron Middel spent 30 years working with the OPP.

With so many years spent working in police services, Middel says the honour still came as a bit of a shock.

"The Canadian Police Association represents 60,000 front line police personnel across Canada who do wonderful and amazing things everyday," says Middel. "So for me to be honoured, it took me off guard."

The last 13 years of Middel's career was spent working in different areas which included the Ontario Provincial Police Association (OPPA) and the Ontario Police Association (OPA). Middel then went on to taking his place on the board of directors with the Canadian Police Association.

The award was established back in 1998 and is given to those who work towards common goals within the police association, to strengthen it as a whole.

"I worked with a lot of great people who I consider to be mentors," he says. "We were able to achieve our common goals only by working together."

Middel says he found out about the award a couple of weeks ago when he was invited to the Canadian Police Association's Legislative Conference.

The ceremony took place earlier this week on March 6, where Middel and his wife Glenna were able to celebrate.
