Strong Winds Blowing In Calls For Fire Crews

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services officials are reminding area residents to drive extra cautiously in extremely windy conditions.

Fire officials say crews have been responding to a higher-than-normal amount of calls on Wednesday because of the damage that's being caused by the gusting wind. They've received more than 20 calls in a two hours period in the afternoon.

The blustery weather is creating several hazards for drivers including downed power lines and trees.

Drivers are being cautioned that blowing soil from fields may also cause some limited visibility on area roads -- especially on rural roads and highways.

Fire officials say if you see any downed power lines, you should stay at least 100 ft away and call 911.
