High winds aren't enough to stop local residents from participating in this year's International Women's Day walk in Chatham.

Around 20 people turned out for the walk in downtown Chatham Wednesday evening.

Organizer Patricia Clarke says this is the fifth year Patricia M. Productions and the PMP Teen Models have held this event.

She says women, children and men usually come out -- despite weather conditions to show their support.

"We are just happy to be women and supporting and celebrating being a woman," says Clarke.

She adds it's important to teach the pride of being female to the younger generation.

"I really think the young girls need to take the wisdom of the older women," she says. "With our group that we do at PMP Teen Models, we work a lot with the young ladies and I see a lot of growth in them so I really feel like we can help each other."

One attendee, Rachel Plante brought along her two children ages 3 and 5.

She says this is a way for both her son and daughter to learn about supporting and respecting women.

"Women do a lot," she says. "I think we need to support women."
