Fire crews responded around 11am Wednesday morning after a smelting furnace blew-up at the Accurcast plant at 333 Arnold St.
Damage is estimated at $2,000.
The factory was briefly evacuated.
The Ministry of Labour, TSSA and the Office of the Fire Marshal have been notified.
Alan Smith will begin his new role with the municipality on July 20.
