Gabriel Vilardi had three assists in the Windsor Spitfires' 4-1 win over the London Knights Saturday at the WFCU Centre.
It is the second straight win for the Spits against a key opponent, following their overtime win Thursday night over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Windsor now sits with 82 points in fifth place in the OHL Western Conference standings. They are also second in the West Division, four points behind Sault Ste. Marie at the conclusion of the game.
The Knights, currently in third in the conference, have 89 points and trail the Erie Otters in the Midwest Division by four points as of the end of their game Saturday against Windsor.
London did put a point on the board first, when Mitchell Stephens scored on the power play at 4:35 in the opening period. Victor Mete assisted on the score. Jeremy Bracco tied the game for the Spitfires less than two minutes later, then Aaron Luchuk scored what would become the game-winning goal before the end of the frame.
There was no scoring in the second period, though Windsor had to kill off two London power play opportunities. Windsor scored two more goals in the third period, with Jalen Chatfield putting it in the next with just under nine minutes gone. Julius Nattinen's power play goal put the game out of reach for the Knights.
Mario Culina was the winner in goal for Windsor, stopping all but one of 22 shots from London attackers. Tyler Parsons had 34 stops for the Knights.
The Spitfires host the Sudbury Wolves Sunday afternoon. The Knights welcome the Guelph Storm to Budweiser Gardens Thursday night.
