Residents in Lighthouse Cove are pleased the Town of Lakeshore is moving forward with negotiations to purchase the Lighthouse Cove pier.
The pier is currently owned by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and is a property the government is looking to divest.
Negotiations between the town and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans began after residents in the area started a petition to encourage the sale.
Resident Bill Isaacs is hopeful the town can reach an agreement, because he fears the condition of the pier will continue to deteriorate if the ownership remains with the federal government.
"It's continually going to get worse and worse every year if this doesn't happen," says Isaacs. "This process takes a long time so we need to get the process going, so hopefully we'll be successful."
The town will negotiate a purchase price taking into consideration the amount of work that needs to be done to the dock to bring it up to standard.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain is hopeful negotiations will wrap up by summer.
