Vigils Held In Chatham For Quebec Victims

Chatham-Kent residents will come together in solidarity Wednesday night to show support for those who died in the Quebec City attack.

The shooting that took place at a mosque has shaken some residents in the community -- specifically those who are part of the Chatham-Kent Muslim Association.

"There will always be some bad apples around," says Hassan Elhkodr, president of the CK Muslim Association. "But hopefully coming together in a strong way like we are -- like Canada has been coming together since this incident took place, [sends] a very positive [message]."

A vigil will be held outside on the Civic Centre in Chatham Wednesday night from 7pm-8pm. Another vigil will also be held Friday night at the Community of Christ Church on Faubert Dr. in Chatham from 6pm-9pm.

"It gives positive support to those families who lost their loved ones," says Elhkodr. "It shows them that this country is with them."

Residents are also invited to leave condolences at municipal service centres through to February 10.
