UPDATE: Stolen Generator, Equipment Recovered

Thanks to some tips and some solid police work, Chatham resident Dan Crawford has recovered a large diesel generator that was stolen from him late last week.

Crawford says officers were also able to recover the aluminum brake/bender that was taken from a property he's renovating on Adelaide St. S in Chatham.

"I have a lot of contacts, I do a lot of renovations in the East End, and I told a lot of people about it," says Crawford. "The information I got from them, I passed on to the police and they found it."

Crawford says the aluminum brake/bender was found attached to a fence at a property on Wellington St. in Chatham. The diesel generator wasn't there, though.

Crawford says the generator was sold to someone in the Merlin-area who contacted police after thinking there was something suspicious about the deal.

"He just didn't think it was quite right, so he contacted the city police and they rushed out and found out it was mine -- it had my name on it," says Crawford. "Luckily, I got it back and thanks to the police and the many people who helped me get it."

While Crawford is thankful to have his stolen property returned to him, he's also hoping other members of the community will step up to prevent similar break-ins from taking place.

"It's quite rampant in most cities and Chatham isn't any different. The police could sure use anybody's help," says Crawford. "Whatever [citizens] can do to help the police out would be very much appreciated, and I can guarantee you, I appreciate it."

Chatham-Kent police say they arrested a 52-year-old man from Colborne St. in Chatham on Friday in connection with the case .He has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and was released with a future court date.
