Southwestern Ontario enjoyed spring like weather Saturday as temperatures broke records across the region.
According to Environment Canada, record high temperatures fell like dominoes across the area as new records were set for January 21, thanks to an area of mild weather moving through. The mild temperatures brought out more walkers and joggers than normally seen during mid-January. The normal high for this date in Windsor is -1 C, or 30 F.
The weather agency reported a high of 13 C at Windsor Airport Saturday, or 55.4 F. The previous record was set in 1957 at 9.4 C, or 48.9 F.
Chatham, London and Sarnia also reported record highs on Saturday. The mercury reached 10.6 in Chatham Saturday, or 51 F, shattering the former mark of 7 C (44.6 F), set in 1997.
London's high reached 11.1 C (52 F), breaking the record set in 1959 of 9.4 C, or 48.9 F. In Sarnia, highs reached 12.8 C (55 F). The old record was 10 C, or 50 F, set in 1964.
Milder-than-normal temperatures will continue to be seen throughout the region through Wednesday, after which, Environment Canada said, they will fall to normal for this time of year.
The mild temperatures also mean heavy fog is likely in the area. A fog advisory is in effect for the region Saturday night into Sunday.
