Provincial Award For Buxton Couple

A provincial honour for North Buxton's Bryan and Shannon Prince.

The couple will be presented with the "Harriet Tubman-Commitment with a Purpose" award by the Ontario Black History Society.

Shannon, who is the Curator of the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, says they were shocked and surprised when they found out.

"It was one of those 'Really?' one of those moments," she says. "It's very humbling, and it is an honour to receive it because Harriet Tubman is one of those famed figures and very well known."

Prince adds that her and her husband are honoured to win.

"To be part of that continuing history that we are doing, but also there's so many other wonderful people and organizations that are also persevering those same stories and same memories," she says. "So it's really a tribute to everyone."

The Prince's will receive the award at the Black History Month Kick-Off Brunch in Toronto on Sunday, January 29, 2017.
