The executive director of the Chatham-Kent Sexual Assault Crisis Centre says the culture needs to change when it comes to sexual assault.
Michelle Schryer says too often there are misconceptions and double standards for victims and abusers.
"On university campuses, young women are raped and young men are raping them," says Schryer. "Inevitably, I'm being told that the young woman was drinking and put herself in the position to be sexually assaulted -- she's blamed for her victimization."
Schryer says 51% of all women in Canada will experience sexual or physical assault and most women are assaulted by someone they know.
She sadly admits she doesn't expect change anytime soon.
"I have not seen a tremendous amount of movement towards supporting sexual assault victims," says Schryer. "That's one thing we really have to change."
