The Chatham Maroons scored a narrow 4-3 victory over the St. Marys Lincolns in Junior B hockey action on Thursday.
Nolan VandenBoorn started things off for Chatham with a goal 7:04 into the first period, followed by Alec Mackenzie who made it 2-0 for the Maroons. The Lincolns scored before the second to cut Chatham's lead in half, but Blair Derynck scored the only goal of the second frame to make it 3-1 for Chatham.
The Lincolns scored two back-to-back goals ten minutes into the final period to tie the game at three goals a piece. However, Kevin Gursoy was able to score the game winner for Chatham with just over three minutes left to play.
Mackenzie says the game was a real battle.
"We got away from our game for a bit, but we settled down in the third and got the greasy win," he says.
The Maroons are at home on Sunday when they take on the London Nationals at 7pm.
