Funding For The Future

One of the auditoriums at the St. Clair College Thames Campus is looking a little more modern with its recent renovations.

The upgrades were made possible by funds that were donated by local philanthropist Frank Uniac.

"Frank's been a long time friend and donor of the college," says Kelly Gosselin, manager of alumni and donor relations.

Uniac is no stranger to giving money to the school and other community programs, either.

His donation in 2014 of just over $200,000 had initially been for new nursing equipment, but once that project had finished, there was money left over. That money was then allocated to the lecture hall.

The redone auditorium is now named after Uniac's late father-in-law A.W. Clapp -- who was also known in the community for his generosity.

The plaque unveiling at the auditorium was recognized during a ceremony Wednesday morning.

During the ceremony Uniac spoke a few words about his late wife and his late father-in-law. He says since he and his wife had been fortunate enough to have money, giving back to the community is what's right.

"It's what you have to do, you can't take it with you [when you pass]," says Uniac. "You have to give it away and the best way to do it is give it to these people."

Now, 120 students will able to sit comfortably during their lessons once they return to school.
