Municipality Taking Over Lebo Drain Maintainance

The Municipality of Leamington is taking over naturalized parts of the Lebo Creek Drain to clear debris and improve water flow.

Currently the municipality is responsible for maintaining the drains but the natural water courses are left up to individual property owners.

Leamington Mayor John Paterson says they have received a number of complaints regarding the flow of the drain because some residents don't maintain it as well as others.

"When that water cannot run away as quickly as it needs to the farm tiles themselves cannot drain into the drain cause it's already full so that means the water table just rises and waters lays on top of the field," says Paterson.

The engineering study and clean up is estimated to cost $250,000. The cost will be shared between the municipality and abutting property owners.
