The Chatham-Kent Association of Realtors is hoping Christmas won't stop housing numbers from reaching record-highs.
"I believe the last two weeks of December, our clients will be thinking about Christmas instead of purchasing a home. But it will be a good time to sell, anytime is a good time to sell," says CKAR President Barb Phillips.
The CKAR is reporting a 36% increase in home sales year-over-year for the month of November, continuing the consistent climb Chatham-Kent realtors have seen over the last six months.
But there continues to be a lack of inventory, as the number of newly listed homes was down 9.5% in November 2016 compared to 2015. There were a total of 124 new properties listed last month.
"The listings are selling almost as quickly as they're getting active on the market," adds Phillips.
Despite the large demand for homes, average prices saw only a slight increase year-over-year. November 2016 saw the average price of a sold home sit at $161,366, a 10% increase from a year ago.
