Another Step Forward For CK Age-Friendly Committee

Those advocating for an age-friendly community are a little closer to forming a permanent committee.

Several recommendations had been brought to council in the form of a report earlier this week - all of which have been approved. This includes the appointment of South Kent Councillor Karen Herman as the official committee of council for the Age-Friendly Committee.

"Together we will develop that group that's going to take us to the next steps as an age-friendly welcoming community," say Herman.

In addition, an Age-Friendly Coordinator will soon be hired. Funding for wages and expenses will be provided by a Core Grant in the amount of $25,000.

Herman says now that they've been given the go-ahead they can move forward in developing an Age-Friendly Committee.

"I'm very excited about going the next steps with the group," says Herman. "Going forward I think this is good for Chatham-Kent."

Their 2015 Action Plan is geared at promoting an age-friendly Chatham-Kent, by making certain improvements in areas such as transportation, social participation, as well as community and health services.

"These are strategies we are going to act on," says Herman. "The Age-Friendly Committee can work strategically with municipal staff as well, to make certain that recommendations go forward to council."

A report will be brought to council at a later date to go over member recommendations.
