Chatham-Kent administration will rub elbows with the world's top CEOs and leaders in Peru this week.
Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope and Economic Development Director have been asked to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation CEO Summit, where invitees will participate in a number of networking events and presentations.
Burton says Chatham-Kent's objectives during the summit are twofold.
"To introduce Chatham-Kent to some fairly senior CEOs that will be at this summit, and follow up on investment discussions we've had in the food-processing area with some Peruvian companies," says Burton.
One of those companies made a second visit to Chatham-Kent in September.
Among the world leaders attending will be Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Barack Obama and President Xi Jinping of China. As far as Burton has heard, Chatham-Kent is the only municipality invited to the summit.
"You get a bit of an advantage when you're the only one at the party," jokes Burton. "We're hoping we can make some really significant contacts at this thing. There are a lot of networking sessions, but our focus is really going to be introducing ourselves to these CEOs."
The three-day economic summit begins Thursday.
