Trump Win Good For Canadian Business: Marchand

The president of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce says a Donald Trump presidency could be a good thing for business in Windsor-Essex and throughout Canada.

Matt Marchand says if Trump kills the Trans-Pacific Partnership like he said he was going to while campaigning, that will be good for business here.

"It would have been very injurious to our region. So that's the good news. The TPP is dead unless President Obama tried to revive it through the lame duck session of congress but that seems unlikely," says Marchand.

He says if the TPP had passed it would have put businesses in Canada in an unfair position.

"It would have put our businesses in a position where they have to compete with countries that basically have low labour standards, they have minimum health standards they have very low pay. To ask our local entrepreneurs and businesses to compete against that would be very unfair," says Marchand.

As for changes to other trade deals like NAFTA, Marchand says they'll just have to wait and see how Trump proceeds.
