UPDATE: Trump Takes The White House

Republican Donald Trump has won the U.S. Presidential election.

Democrat Hillary Clinton has conceded the race to her rival, less than an hour after her campaign manager took the stage before supporters saying the Clinton campaign would have a statement in the morning.

Vice-President-elect Mike Pence addressed a jubilant crowd of his supporters at 2:45am Wednesday. Trump addressed the crowd soon after saying he’ll be a president for all Americans.

For hours, the race was too close to call.

The Republicans have won a majority in the House of Representatives with 236 seats, and a victory in the Senate with 51 seats compared to 47 for the Democrats.

The reaction worldwide has been dramatic.

The U.S. dollar has fallen against other major currencies, but that hasn’t given the Canadian dollar a boost. It, along with the Mexican Peso have fallen in trading.

Concerns range from removal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, to Trump's promise to tear up the North American Free Trade Agreement.

University of Windsor political scientist Lydia Miljan says that would be worst case scenario for Canada. She's not sure where that would leave the Canadian economy since the U.S. is Canada's largest trading partner.

"I honestly have no idea what would happen," Miljan admits. "To be fair, I don't think he could just rip up NAFTA -- but nonetheless it would jeopardize a lot of our [economic] recovery."

Windsor West MP Brian Masse says it could also open up a rare opportunity for Canada.

"It could be another discussion about trade in general," he says. "The reality that we have is that we do have an agreement where a lot of Canadians don't like a lot of elements in the agreement."

He also says pulling out of the trade deal would take months.

As for Americans who have vowed to move to Canada if Trump wins the White House, the Canadian immigration site has crashed.
