Halloween is normally about getting spooked, but Chatham-Kent OPP are looking to show kids there's nothing scary about police officers.
Chatham-Kent police and OPP are hosting a "Haunted Halloween event at the Chatham-Kent OPP detachment on Park Ave. Sunday. The day will feature pumpkin carving, a kid-friendly haunted house and hot dog roast.
"We thought we'd have a fun event where the public can come out and see the police in a different light," says the OPP's Jay Denorer. "The always see us either pulling cars over or responding to calls. We want them to see us as people."
Denorer adds that message will be particularly targeted to the children who attend on Sunday.
"A lot of times when they see us we're in uniform and have our equipment on. So to a little kid, we look like this big intimidating person, which we're not. We want to show the kids that if they're ever in need, they can come to us," says Denorer.
The Haunted Halloween event takes place from 1pm to 4pm Sunday, at the Chatham-Kent OPP detachment.
