Essex-Kent-Lambton Non-Profit Organizations To Split $1M

Six local non-profit and charitable organizations in the Essex, Kent, Lambton areas are about to get a boost from the provincial government.

Ontario’s Minister of Tourism Culture and Sport Eleanor McMahon announced on Thursday, that the six non-profit initiatives will receive a total of $1,002,000 in grants through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

“I’m very excited about the investment our government is making in non-profits across Ontario," says McMahon in a media release. "Through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we’re supporting projects that provide vital programs and services, make differences in people’s lives and have positive impacts in communities.”

The funds will go towards an additional youth with special needs coordinator at the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent, and will help to expand equine-assisted activities and youth therapy for the Windsor-Essex Therapeutic Riding Association.

Community Living Essex County will use the grant money to offer free additional exercise training to adults with autism and intellectual disabilities, while the Leamington District Chamber of Commerce will put the funds towards studying the feasibility of creating a Leamington Greenhouse Centre of Excellence.

As well, Sarnia Lambton Rebound will get to create and coordinate a one-stop, multi-service location for youth, while Financial Fitness will offer additional financial literacy workshops and personal coaching to low-income earners.

The local investments are part of a $31.6-million investment for 152 non-profit initiatives throughout Ontario.
