Trot With The Troops Today

Don't be surprised if you see some members of the Essex-Kent Scottish Regiment marching alongside some local families in Chatham today.

They're taking part in the fourth annual "Trot With The Troops" along the Thames River.

Dennis Poole, a civilian volunteer with the regiment, says they usually hold the event a little further west.

"The last few years it has been held in Windsor, but this year, they wanted to engage the Chatham-Kent community," says Poole. "It's a 5km or 10km walk, run, bike, etc. with the troops down Riverview Line, which will be closed to normal traffic."

If you're curious about what the armoury looks like inside, you're in luck because the soldiers will be offering tours of the facility after the walk/run.

"It gives the community an opportunity to see the armoury... they've probably driven by before and wondered what it was like inside," says Poole. "It's a smaller place, but there is a lot of history involved with this regiment that the community probably doesn't know about, so you can see some of those artifacts as well."

The walk/run starts at 10:30am this morning at the armoury on Bloomfield Rd. in Chatham with registration starting at 8:30am.

That will be followed by a free BBQ event at the armoury.
