The price of electricity was the hot button issue at Day 1 of the International Plowing Match near Harriston in the Town of Minto.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne received a mix of boos and cheers while she addressed the topic publicly Tuesday.
With Minister of Agriculture Jeff Leal at her side, the premier addressed the concerns brought to her by farmers.
"We recognize that there is a cost challenge," says Wynne. "So the changes that we are making, whether it's to the ICI program, means that businesses that are a megawatt or more will be able to tap into that program and be able to save up to 34% of their cost. Or whether it's support for rural residential consumers who will see a 20% reduction."
The ICI program, or Industrial Conservation Initiative, deals with the global adjustment charge that users pay if they currently use three megawatts or more during peak periods over one year.
Asked about her mixed rural Ontario reception, Wynne feels producers will come around once they start to see savings in their energy bills.
