It will be short-lived, but Environment Canada says Southern Ontario is finally getting some significant rainfall.
The weather authority is tracking a low pressure system, with a large area of rain around it, expected to hit the region Tuesday night. It's prompted Environment Canada officials to issue a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, London-Middlesex and most of Southern Ontario.
"15-20mm (0.75 in.) of rain could fall overnight," says Meteorologist Geoff Coulson. "Then a possibility of another 10-15mm of rain during the day Tuesday."
This bout of rain will be different from the short, sporadic storms the area has seen over the last few weeks. Coulson adds localized flooding is still possible.
"If it falls, in a general sense, at a relatively steady pace, there shouldn't be too much in the way of impacts. But the concern is, this is a fairly unstable air mass, so within the area of showers and rain its bringing with it, there could also be some embedded thunderstorms," says Coulson.
The rain should taper off Tuesday evening, with Environment Canada predicting sunshine and above-average temperatures for the rest of the work week.
