For local union representatives, contract talks with the Big Three are officially getting underway.
Unifor Local 444 President Dino Chiodo says the union will hand over its list of demands at noon to the major automakers in Detroit.
"One of the main things that we have to talk about between Chrysler, Ford and General Motors is future investment for all of our facilities and maintaining a footprint," says Chiodo. "That's an important component of what we have to see happen."
The key issues for the union don't begin and end with future investment for the Canadian facilities though.
"It's about what we can do better with regards to pensions, can we make benefits better, what do we do with wages; so I think those are all demands that our members have put forward to us," says Chiodo.
Bargaining is expected to happen over the next month as contracts are set to expire on September 19.
