Leamington Factory Hiring Soon

Leamington metal fabricator Uni-Fab is planning an expansion that will see up to 50 jobs created over the next three years.

President Abe Fehr says the expansion will house their metal cutting equipment — doubling their welding capacity.

"We've been seeing increased requests from our customer base giving us more work," says Fehr. "At this point in time, we really can't handle the additional work they want to provide us with so we need more space to do that in."

Uni-Fab already has approval from municipal council for the expansion, but provincial approval is holding up the project. Fehr wants to see construction start next month and have the new expansion built by the spring.

Fehr says the expansion has nothing to do with the company's involvement in building a prototype bed for Leamington District Memorial Hospital.

"Once that happens, that will be an additional expansion," says Fehr. "Not sure at this point in time what that would entail, but that could be a lot larger than this if and when that happens."

Hiring would likely begin in the spring granted construction begins next month.

"There's going to be some great opportunities for people to get into the skilled trades once we're ready to hire people. We're certainly going to be looking for welders, machinists, equipment operators and stuff," says Fehr.

Uni-Fab mainly supplies the machine tool industry.
