A downed Hydro One transmission line and a fire in a wheat field are getting the blame for Sunday night's power outage in Tilbury.
Entegrus officials say the downed line fell into a wheat field on North Talbot Rd. just outside of Cottam.
"When the line was damaged, it caused a fire in the field," says Matthew Meloche, System Planning Engineer at Entegrus. "So before we could roll our trucks in there to start making electrical repairs, we had to make sure it was safe."
Both Kingsville Fire Department stations were called to the scene to put out the fire.
Another factor in the length of the outage was where the affected tower was located.
"It was in a remote location," says Meloche. "So it took Hydro One crews a little bit of time to locate the problem and then make the repairs."
At the height of the outage, approximately 1,600 customers in Tilbury didn't have any power.
The lights went out at about 6pm Sunday and didn't come back on until 12:30am Monday.
Meloche says anyone who still has a concern about the outage can call Entegrus.
