Psychiatrist To Evaluate Murder Suspect

A psychiatrist is set to assess a Blenheim murder suspect to see if he's fit to stand trial.

Walter Ardis, 78, seemed more alert Monday compared to his last court appearance a week ago. But he still had to lean into a camera at the South West Detention Centre to hear his lawyer and a Chatham judge.

Psychiatrist Dr. William Komar has 30 days to evaluate the murder suspect. Ardis has agreed to the assessment, but will remain in custody for the time being.

Ardis was arrested and charged with murder back in April after his wife's body was found in their torched Blenheim home.

The results of the psychiatric assessment are expected to come on July 29.
