The OSPCA and London Humane Society are investigating after a dog was rescued from a hot car Saturday evening in Grand Bend.
Lambton OPP say they were notified of a small dog in a parked vehicle, in the public access parking lot just after 6:30pm.
Out of concern for the animal, a passerby smashed the rear passenger window with a large rock, freeing the dog.
Constable Chris Doupe says the animal was returned to the owner pending an investigation.
Saturday evening, the outside air temperature reached about 28C (82F), with the humidex in the high 30's.
"The parking lot wasn't shaded at all, I understand the vehicles window's were down slightly but having said that it was quite a hot day," says Doupe.
OPP remind pet owners that unlawfully causing pain or suffering to an animal can result in a $10,000 fine or imprisonment for up to five years.
If you spot a pet left alone in a vehicle on a hot day, notify the Sarnia and District Humane Society, the OSPCA or police.
