No Animals Hurt or Killed in Hensall Barn Fire

A large fire over the weekend may have completely destroyed a barn at the Hensall Cattle Company but the good news is, there was no loss of life.

Crews from the Hensall, Seaforth and Brucefield Fire Departments responded to the blaze just before 7:30pm to find the barn fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.

There were a large number of animals on site and fortunately none were reported to be injured and no animals were killed as a result of the blaze.

"The livestock was all outside and there was some horses in a pen nearby, they got them over to another field. A couple of goats got out and as far as I know, all of the kittens got out," Central Huron District Fire Chief, Dave Renner, tells CKNX News.

The main two story structure, described as a full old bank barn, is a total loss according to Renner, the fire leaving the structure in complete ruin.

Renner says the Ontario Fire Marshall has been notified but will not be investigating.

"I let them know, but at this time they're not coming, there's really nothing to look at, no livestock loss, not suspicious so no, they're not coming," adds Renner.

As for the cause of the fire, Renner says their investigation is leaning toward something electrical in nature or possible spontaneous combustion.
