A Windsor man freed from a United Arab Emirates prison Tuesday is now being told he can't leave the country.
Salim Alaradi is at the airport trying to leave, but is having some trouble because he is unable to resolve a travel ban.
He spent 643 days in prison, initially on terror-related charges. Those charges were later reduced to lesser offences earlier this year.
Speaking with BlackburnNews.com, Alaradi's daughter Marwa is elated her father is out of prison, but it's not over until he's home.
“There’s no description for my feelings right now. We’re just very, very happy and relieved that finally my father is out of prison,” she says.
The plan was for Alaradi to leave for Istanbul, Turkey Wednesday morning to seek medical treatment and meet up with his daughter and wife, but those plans have been delayed.
Alaradi was on vacation with his family in Dubai when he was suddenly arrested in August 2014. He was among ten men of Libyan origin detained around the same time — some of them have since been released.
Alaradi was acquitted of terror-related charges by the top court in the UAE after 21 months behind bars. He was re-detained after his acquittal.
Marwa says her family hasn’t been given any explanation as to why her father was re-detained.
