Speak Up If You Want To Be Heard

Chatham-Kent's mayor says the municipality needs more community engagement and a long-term vision in order to be successful.

That's why Randy Hope is encouraging people to come out to an upcoming community forum to talk about the "Chatham-Kent Plan 2035."

"We did all the consultations with community groups and everybody else, now it's time to put that framework out there to get feedback and insight other individuals," says Hope, adding too many concerned residents are airing their concerns to the wrong people. "We do it around kitchen tables, we do it in our workplaces, we'll do it while we're sitting around the campfire, but who are we telling? That's why we're saying, 'We want to listen, but we can't hear you if you're not talking.'"

Council supported the basic principles of the 20-year plan last September, but at this point, no details have been released.

The community forum to discuss the "Chatham-Kent Plan 2035" will start at 6pm on June 13, 2016 in the Municipal Council Chambers at the Civic Centre in Chatham.
