Workers Have What It Takes

The person who first imported Subaru automobiles to North America believes Canada should be able to attract more investment from Japanese automakers.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Japan and has approached Toyota and Honda about increasing their Canadian investment and is trying to get Subaru to start a factory here.

Malcolm Bricklin who developed the Bricklin car and a factory in New Brunswick to build it, says Japanese car makers value quality more than cheap labour.

"The Japanese like the idea of good people building their cars and there are good people here," he says. "If they could get that point across because it's not going to be cheaper labour, it's not going to be that the sun shines more, it is going to be with the mentality of the people who put that car together."

Bricklin is in Chatham for a screening of a documentary about his life tonight, and is staying for the RetroFest car show on the weekend.
