Chatham-Kent is getting greener, but not just because of spring.
Police, fire, and emergency crews will all be wearing green ribbons as part of Be A Donor Month, encouraging residents to sign up for organ donation.
"We want people to register their consent, but we also want you to have that conversation with your family and friends," says Chatham-Kent Police Service Constable Renee Cowell. "So, should the need ever arise, your family knows your wishes."
Cowell started the campaign in memory of her daughter Bailey, who died of a heart transplant in 2001.
"I think she'd be very proud of everyone here in our community for stepping up, and really raising awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation," says Cowell.
Large green ribbons can be seen at all Chatham emergency headquarters. There's also an organ donation flag flying at the Economic Development building on Grand Ave. W.
