Fire Destroys Vacant Building

A vacant building in Thamesville has been destroyed after fire broke out.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services says firefighters arrived at 29311 Zone Rd. 1 just after midnight to find the building fully engulfed in flames.  Fire officials say the building had been vacant for a considerable amount of time.

The Bothwell fire station had to attend the fire as well to assist with water supply, as firefighters battled the blaze for several hours.

No one has been reported injured in the blaze.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and fire officials have not released a damage estimate from the fire.

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
