Windsor Detroit Ferry Facing Barriers

A Windsor city councillor wants to know what barriers are in the way of a pedestrian ferry between Windsor and Detroit.

Councillor Chris Holt says he believes the City of Detroit is eager to see the project move forward.

"Multiple levels of government are very excited about it over on the Detroit side and I want to see that level of excitement, that level of enthusiasm towards the opportunities and the possibilities mirrored over here," says Holt. Mayor Drew Dilkens hinted at Monday's council meeting the biggest barrier is financial. "Let's see the business case for it, let's see what the return on investment is on giving pedestrians and cyclists and tourists from downtown Detroit better access, easier access to downtown Windsor," says Holt. He's asked for a report from city administration on what work has been done on the project from the city's perspective. "Have we discussed things with the federal government to see what's stopping us from doing this? Because a pedestrian ferry linking downtown Detroit to downtown Windsor is 150% benefitting the city of Windsor," says Holt.
