Amherstburg's Kevin Westgarth is the National Hockey League's new Vice President of Business Development and International Affairs.
After playing professional hockey for the last decade, the 32-year-old says he'll be working under Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly to grow the game domestically, and around the world.
"It's a great place to start," Westgarth explains. "I think it keeps many doors open, while allowing me to contribute [to the organization] right away and learn as much as possible. So it's a situation that I'm very lucky to be in."
Westgarth was part of the 2012 Stanley Cup winning LA Kings team before playing in Carolina and Calgary.
He spent last season playing for the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK. That's where he says he really discovered how passionate people are getting about hockey in non-traditional hockey markets.
Westgarth adds that it's definitely been an adjustment showing up to an office instead of a hockey rink every day, but he's excited to see where it leads him.
