UPDATE: Chatham-Kent Under Flood Watch

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has issued a flood watch for Chatham-Kent following significant rainfall.

The conservation authority says over 15 mm of rain fell between 5pm and 7pm on Thursday in Chatham, which brought the total rainfall of the day to over 30 mm.

Following Thursday's storm, the LTVCA is reporting most of the area's smaller watercourses are now in decline. The conservation authority also did not need to operate the Indian-McGregor Creek Diversion Channel.

However, water levels on the Thames River will also rise. The LTVCA expects levels to peak on Sunday, where , the sidewalk adjacent to the river downtown can be expected to be flooded over.

Residents are being advised to to use extra caution and avoid the river, ditches, streams, and ponds, which may become hazardous due to fast moving water.

This flood watch will remain in effect until Saturday.
