Bridge Twinning Approval Worries West End

Fabio Costante of the community group Our West End isn't thrilled to see the Ambassador Bridge twinning project clear another hurdle.

The project received a permit to build its second span by the US Coast Guard on Tuesday.

Costante feels cause for concern after hearing the news.

"Immediate setback," Costante tells BlackburnNews.com. "I don't know what kind of influence or precedence this sets on our side. I'm hoping it won't be persuasive when Canadian authorities are making their decision."

Costante says Windsor's west-end community is dead set against the project as it would greatly intrude on the Sandwich Town area.

"It is concerning and I know there are a lot of folks that believe this decision is not good news, not just for folks that live in the area on the US side, but also for Sandwich Town residents and west-enders," says Costante.

The twinning project still needs approval from the Canadian government before the bridge would be expanded.
